Europe
Are we really ready to
become part of one community, of one perfectly working machine ,with
an established order,a way of thinking, and mentality.Our school “St.
Clement Ohridski” Foreign Language School - Blagoevgrad
has been working on three youth educational projects based on
programmes of the European Union - “Millennium Eurokid”,
“Knowing Me, Knowing You” , “Outclass activities” and the
interaction between the school and the local structures”.Our
work on the youth educational programmes of EU continues.What we
didn’t have so far was a student club to provide our students’
activities.We named it Together in Europe and it bacame a
very important part of our classwork.The club took part in the
project “Europe and Youth - opportunities and responsibilities “
where we represented educational desk, part of our informational
board.An essay was qualified from the announced competition and the
one to win was on topic “Ready or not for integration” .An
inquiry was made with students and teachers.The result showed that
we’ve got a lot to learn but the most important is that all the
inquired want to know more about the opportunities and
responsibilities of the youth and the Bulgarian integration.

We are glad
that we’ve put the beginning of the enterprisement in the future
activities of our school.What do children need is a good
motivation . The best way to be motivated is to work in a team for
the sake of the common aim. And the aim is many children to work
as one - to feel that you are part of something solid.Exactly that
kind of feeling we got when becoming part of the projectof the
European Union.
The
experience we got there was very important - we received ‘fresh
“ knowledge for actual problems: work ; the chances we can get .
Such programmes help us find our goal in life , to see the
opportunities in front of us.We get in touch with other teens and
learn different information and even a piece of advice.
Being part
of this project was a real challenge for the students. And our
school “St. Clement Ohridski ‘Foreign Language School -
Blagoevgrad has showed its qualities and abilities to “fight
back “, to say to the world that we Bulgarians do have what to
give to the other foreign countries.

MY IDEA OF EUROPEAN PUPILS’
PARTNERSHIP
All children are alike, no matter
where they live, what color their skin is, what kind of music they
listen or what kind of school they go to. This is so because God
created them equal. All around the world in times of war or peace,
children want the same thing - to grow up and know the world. School
helps them to do so. That is why school has to be the same every
where.
Europe tends to become united, to open its borders
and accept new countries in order to form united European Community.
The European pupils are the future inhabitants of the united Europe.
They have the right of a better education, and the right to chose in
which country to study. Our country has relations with most European
countries and exchanges students with them. In my town there is an
American University, and in Ukraine soon will be founded a Bulgarian
university, as our president Mr. George Parvanov told in the news
yesterday.

It is wonderful for the
Bulgarian pupils to study abroad and then come back with new ideas
how to change Bulgaria and the whole world. It is useful for
Bulgarians abroad to learn and study in Bulgarian schools as well.
Most students from English language schools participate in TOEFL
and SAT exams and go to study at foreign universities, and they
are clever enough to graduate there. I think that the world would
be different if there was not such partnership in education. The
friendship due to this partnership is long-lasting and it helps
for the peace and better future of Bulgarians. The European pupils
have to be together, united by idea of peace and partnership, they
will exchange experience and knowledge in order to enlarge the
United Europe and form the United Earth!

My idea of European pupils`
partnership and friendship is that they should meet one another and
exchange their experience, their opinions and their points of view.
For example, if a Bulgarian pupil
goes to a European country from the European Union our pupil will
learn more about their schools, their culture, their entertainment
and so on. Except that the Bulgarian pupil will learn the language
better and fluently. There are many different ways to the European
pupils` friendship and partnership. Pupils can make friends by
Internet, they could write e-mails to each other and learn more
about themselves. Another way to the European pupils` friendship and
partnership are sports competitions. If some wealthy companies
organize sports competitions in different countries in Europe,
pupils from every European country will be able to go and take part
in the events. And finally, the greatest way of European pupils`
partnership are the special excursions.
When a foreign pupil comes to
Bulgaria he will learn more about our pupils. He could go and see
some
Bulgarian towns, historical
places, museums, places for entertainment. Except that he could
learn more
About our country and our culture.
And then when he goes back to his country, he will tell his friends
About the impressions of Bulgaria,
he will tell them about our lifestyle and country. After that, if
they like Bulgaria, they will want to come and see our minds and
beauties with their own eyes, so they will make friends with the
Bulgarian pupils. Then our pupil will go to visit his friend in his
country and they will be friends forever.
So I think that the European
pupils` friendship and partnership should be encouraged.

To have a lot of partners from
your country or from abroad is something great. It’s nice to know
that if you need help connected with your education you can rely on
your partner. For example if you want to continue your education
somewhere else - like London or the USA it’s easy when you know
that you have a partner, because you hope that he or she will help
you to find a place to lice and to make more friends. But if you
want to have partners from other countries you have to find out some
way to meet them.
I think that thanks to my school i
can meet many foreign pupils , because our school is one of the best
schools in Blagoevgrad. In our school each pupil has the chance to
write letters to other pupils from Japan and Italy and we write to
each other quite often. In these letters we write mainly about the
differences and similarities in our education. In my opinion it is a
nice way to make friends and prove

There are many good universities in Bulgaria. Although the Bulgarian
language is not vary famous; there are many foreign students
studying in Bulgaria and maybe one day I can help someone who wants
to study here.
The main idea of the partnership
is to make people be good partners, always ready to help and to help
them improve their knowledge and skills in different areas of
education, sports, hobbies and maybe later in business.

The friendship is something very
valuable. If you don't have friends you will be alone. If you don't
have friends the world will look gray and unhappy. Nobody can live
without friends. You can say everything to your friends. This is
friendship with people who you see every day.
The friendship with European pupils is something
different. It is important not only for you. In private plan
international friendship helps us to meet the culture and the way of
life of other nations. We can learn a lot of things about their
customs and celebrations about education and their language. We can
learn things about their writers, musicians and other famous people.
The first condition is to communicate in one language. For instance,
our common language is English. If we want to communicate with other
pupils we must know the language. When we know the language we can
ask the them whatever we want. Using letters we can exchange ideas
and opinions about international persons and events. We can exchange
the ways in which we are learning English language. But not only
this, we can understand many things about their language. In this
way we exchange experiences. Sharing information by letters or by
using Internet as we write in English we learn the language faster
and better. In this way we are training our language and make it
better. Except this we learn about

each other visiting. In this way we are getting to know each other

the beauties of Bulgaria. If we have guests from Europe we can show
them our beautiful seaside resorts, the soft sand around the sea,
the soft waves. We can show them how hospitable we can be. We can
tell them about Bulgaria customs and celebrations. It can happen, so
that some of our European friends, who have visited Bulgarian can
fall in love with Bulgaria and then he grows up maybe he can decide
to invest in our country. Then the use of the private friendship is
use for our country. The private contacts, in this case, can bring
benefit for the progress of Bulgarian economy and the easier uniting
to the European Union.
Communicating with European
pupils, we learn many things, which can be helpful for us in the
future.

Nowadays the world is lump –we
continuously aim at Europe. We want to talk to our coevals from
European countries. Now there are many possibilities for travelling
to Europe such as youth brigades, excursions. I study English and I
would like to settle contact with an English-speaking boy or girl.
We both can exchange information
about what we study, what kind of interests we have and so on. First
we have to get to know each other, to learn some information about
our families. I think that I can tell him/her many things about me
and my country. That is why I live close to one of the world
monuments of culture – the Rila Monastery. Here nature is very
beautiful and people are very talkative and hospitable. My European
friend would tell me something about his education. What is it there
– state or common. Since when the professional orientation starts
for them and he or she knows what to become. We can learn more
things about ourselves, about our interests, and if we like each
other as persons, then we can become friends. After that we can
settle deeper contacts even to visit each other. The friendship with
such a person can help me because I shall be able to practise my
language. In addition I would like to see the English character
closer. To learn more facts about a certain country, about customs
and traditions. I would see many sights of culture, which can take
me to their way of living. I hope that this contact and partnership
will be good for both sides. It can educate us with a values of the
true Europeans.

There are lots and different kinds
of pupils in Europe. Their partnership depends on the person but in
comparison to us – Bulgarian pupils – they are more
communicative than us. I think it dues to the country. For example,
Germany. It is a wealthy country because they know how to use their
money. When they use computers, they learn a lot of information
about the world. So that they discuss it and start thinking of
something unusual to create modern things. According to me this is
the only way we can develop our minds.
Most pupils are friendly, they
don’t do as they please. They are intelligent because their
country has own system of laws which are obligatory for all the
people. If you don’t observe the law you will have a corresponding
punishment. In my opinion it’s true because in this way the
society will live in peace and life will be calm and easier. I think
they will develop moral values. There aren’t too many murders and
thefts in most countries because the law doesn’t allow it. They
don’t have any use of that because they want to keep their
partnership and it is one of the most important things in life. It
is created hard but it is destroyed easily. If all the people were
so intelligent, the world would be so different and it would develop
in a positive way.

OLD TOWN
|
Three types of towns existed
on the Balkan Peninsula during the period of developed
feudalism-Dalmatian, Byzantine and the interior of the
peninsula.
The latter represented the
most populated and typical part of Bulgarian towns-these were
the towns of Bulgaria, Old Serbia and Bosnia.
The ruler selected from the
aristocracy society appointed military administration in
Bulgarian towns. They were vigilantly controlled by the
supreme power in the First Bulgarian Kingdom (tsar Simeon
/893-927/).

Gradually the towns came
under complete political power of particular boyars who turned
the military administration governors into life and inherited
rulers. The power of the town’s governors became
consolidated in 11th and 12th century
with the including of the fief (a great ruler Dobromir
Hriz-Strumitsa and Prosek).

March! |
“I like this ancient custom. It turns me
back to my childhood when martenitsi are fastened to the neck
of the small calves and lambs that are born during this spring
period as well. My grandmother twists the white and red cotton
to decorate us with them. I remember from her that the white
colour is a wish for a long life and the red one for health
and happiness I begin making martenitsi during the summer of
the previous year, because pleasures me and to invent new ways
of knitting the cotton. I always think that my martenitsi will
make happy some good guy. Of course I expect to earn some
money.”

Dear Friends,
Every day in the last Days of
February and especially on the 1st of March the
market streets of the big cities in Bulgaria gain strange
colourfulness. The red and white cluster of cotton, knitted in
different ways attracts our eyes. They covered the small stalls
of the sellers of martenitsi. The people who pass by often stop
in front of them to buy from the colourful small figures for
their friends and relatives. On the very 1st of March
no man has to be without this spring sign on his lapel.
